SELF DE / CON / RE STRUCT is a kinetic installation built around an ongoing series of double-exposed Polaroid self-portraits. A visitor can activate the mechanical system that breaks the layered safety glass bit by bit. Winder gives the visitor control over how far this process is pushed, while the exact pattern of the breaking glass remains unpredictable. The cracks become part of the self-portrait. Their irregular shapes reveal a beauty that emerges through imperfection. At a certain point, Winder decides that the altered portrait is finished as a work by its own. She removes it and places a new self-portrait inside the installation. The cycle then starts again.
